P-Square – Biography

P-Square are a Nigerian R&B duo composed of identical twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye born 18 November 1981 (Age 33) Jos, Nigeria which means they are 36 years. Native of Ifite Dunu, Anambra State of Nigeria, they are  Recording artist, singer,song-writer, performer, Instruments vocals. They produce and release their albums through Square Records and they  have been active since 2003 till date.P-Square birth records shows that Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye are identical twins, who have performed and released several records under the Square records label. P-square remains the best R&B duo group in Nigerian and in 2011; they were signed unto the Konvict muzik label which is owned by Senegalese born-American singer- Akon. In 2012, P-square signed a record distribution deal with the South African label- Universal music.

History is that, the parents of Paul and Peter Okoye relocated to Jos, Plateau state, Northern Nigeria where Paul and Peter were enrolled in St Lumumba secondary school- a local catholic school and the twins joined the school’s music and drama group where their passion for music and dancing were developed. Smooth criminals were the first group to be formed by the group in1997 and they performed at different shows within the city of Jos while they were in the high school.Peter Okoye biography records show that the twin brother of Paul was born in Anambra state, eastern Nigeria, he seems to be a better singer while Paul is a better dancer. Peter Okoye date of birth record shows that the prolific singer is 33 years old. Paul Okoye biography records show that the half-brother of Peter was also born in Anambra state, Nigeria and he seems to be a better dancer than his half-brother Peter. Paul Okoye date of birth records shows that he was born on November 18th, 1981.

In 2001, “P-Square” won the “Grab Da Mic” competition, and hence Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album, titled Last Nite, which was released under Timbuk2 music label. P-Square was also nominated as “Most Promising African Group” in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album. They eventually won the 2003 Amen Award for “Best R&B Group”
In 2005, P Square released their second album, Get Squared under their own label, Square Records. This album was marketed nationwide by TJoe Enterprises, although they were still managed by Howie T of Adrot Nigeria Limited. The video for the second album held the #1 position on the MTV Base chart for four straight weeks.

In 2009, P-Square released their fourth studio album, “Danger”. The album features collaborations with 2-Face Idibia, J Martins and Frenzy. The first single called “Danger” is a hip hop song with cutting synths and a frog bass baseline similar to an Eminem song. The video affirms this with the presence of clowns and staggered movements in front of the camera reminiscent of comical videos by Eminem. It was on the 18th January 2009 that Akon’s label,Konvict signed Wizkid, Psquare, Tuface. Psquare has performed alongside the following international artists like Ginuwine, Sean Paul, Akon and Busola Keshiro. Meanwhile P-Square are now located in Lagos as their residence in Nigeria.

In August 2012, P Square released a single titled “Alingo”, it became a smashing hit that took the whole of Africa by storm. The video shot and codirected by their elder brother Jude “Engees” Okoye and Clarence Peters of Capital hill Production was rated as the best video that year. Their latest smash hit again “Personally” released mid June 2013. The video is a tribute to late Michael Jackson who inspired their musical career till date. The video and song was such a hit that it got the attention of  Jermaine Jackson, late Michael Jackson’s brother who commended the stars for doing such a tremendous job and hoped to meet with them.The duo are reported to handle most of their production/beat making in house. The band has been faced with many controversies for their habit of sampling western songs and popular hits in their records. They have addressed the issue many times in interviews as well as in the lyrics of their songs. Technically speaking, P Square does more in the line of reconstructing the drum patterns, chord progressions or lyrics of the sampled songs as against actually cutting parts of the song and directly sampling into their production. This accounts for the largely electronic feel of their sound. Some of the songs which have been called up on this account include “Get Squared”, “Game Over”, “Danger” and others.

On 4th April, 2010, P-Square was named the Artist of the Year at the KORA All Africa Music Awards in Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso while they were in London for a Concert at the Troxy, and they received a whopping sum of $1 Million Dollars as the Award Winners, in Ebebiyin City.

In 2013, Paul Okoye, one half of the musical duo, P-Square, was involved in a paternity scandal with a lady named Elshamah Igbanoi who claimed that Paul impregnated her; it was subsequently brought to notice that he accepted the baby after agreeing to go for a DNA test to ascertain the paternity of the baby boy. These Nigerian celebrities are both married. Peter Okoye has been married to Lola Omotayo since November 2013 while the brother Paul Nonso Okoye is married to Anita Tonye Isama in, March 2014.

What is P-Square net worth? The African and Nigerian celebrities do not lag behind their UK and USA counterparts. The Nigerian singing duet P-square net worth Forbes is about 70 million dollars. They are considered to be the richest musicians in Nigeria by Forbes. They also take the third place in Africa when it comes to size of wealth.
